Four Sent to Hospital Following 18-Wheeler Wreck

Lufkin-18-Wheeler-WreckAn accident involving an 18-wheeler and a car on U.S. 59 North sent four people to the hospital around 3:40 p.m. Friday in Lufkin. A Nissan Maxima was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler. The passenger car slowed for a funeral procession near the Garden of Memories cemetery.

“The 18-wheeler didn’t see the cars braking and rear ended the car in front of it,” Lufkin Police Officer Eddie Ibarra said. The driver of the car, who is pregnant, and her three passengers, including her sister were taken by ambulance to Lufkin hospitals. The 18-wheeler driver was ticketed for failure to control speed, Ibarra said.
