The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of child bicycle trailers manufactured by Burley Design LLC. The CPSC took action after reports of wheels loosening and falling off of the trailers which could cause serious injuries to the bike rider or child. The models covered by the recall are the 2009 d’lite ST and Solo ST trailers with serial numbers beginning with D939 or D948. The serial numbers are located in the rear cargo area behind the seat.

Consumers who have one of these products should stop using them immediately until a free repair kit can be obtained from the manufacturer and repairs can be made. The axle assembly’s internal sleeve apparently can loosen causing a wheel to separate from the trailer. The trailers were assembled in the Philippines for Burley Design of Eugene, Oregon.
