I have gotten too many calls in the last month to not revisit this subject again. (Here is an earlier post on it & here’s another.) The caller will say: “I did not want to hurt my company, I have been working there for a long time.” “I thought I could just take care of it on my own and get back to work.” My supervisor said that I was not that hurt and to get back to work, so I did.” “I do not want a workers’ comp claim on my work record.”
Typically these are male callers, so I will address them as such. What did your employer tell you when you were hired about reporting a work injury? I am pretty sure that he or she did not say, “Please do not report it because it will hurt the company, or if you have an injury at work you need to be a man about it and suck it up.” I cannot stress the importance of reporting any work injury, no matter how minor you think it is.
Please give yourself a fighting chance with workers comp and report your work injury.
