After a work injury your employer will usually send you to their company doctor for a work injury evaluation. Your are required to go to this doctor after your work injury. What most injured workers don’t know is that you have the absolute right to choose your own physician to treat with and your employer has to pay for it.
All you have to do is request that you be able to treat with a doctor of your choice. You may still be required to go to the company doctor, but you do not have to stop seeing your doctor. Under Louisiana workers’ comp law, you can choose one (1) physician in any specialty after your work injury, and your employer can do the same. Company doctors are usually looking out for the company, so choose your own doctor to help you get treated fairly and hopefully get back to work.
