E. coli season has officially begun. According to the USDA:
Alex & George Wholesale, Inc., a Rochester, New York firm, is recalling approximately 4,663 pounds of ground beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure associated with hemolytic uremic syndrome. Among those most susceptible to serious complications are the very young and the elderly, as well as anyone with a lowered or compromised immune system.
The recall includes these Alex & George Products:
