Today, the FDA is reporting that as a result of the expansion of the voluntary recall of roasted shelled and in-shell pistachios announced by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc.on April 6, 2009, Rocky Mountain Foods is voluntary recalling tubs of Whole Foods Markets Roasted and Salted In-shell Pistachios, Roasted Chili Lemon Pistachios, and Raw Pistachio Kernels as a precautionary measure because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.
In today’s complex food consumption chain, there are many steps and corresponding entities involved in our food as it goes from the field to our plates. So, in addition to the often brutal consequences for the victims of food borne illness from the physical perspective, there are serious economic penalties to many in the economic food chain.
