The pistachio salmonella recalls continue. This afternoon, the FDA reported that Wegmans announced a voluntary recall of White Chocolate Bark Candy, Raspberry Custard and Pineapple Almond Tarts, all made with pistachio nuts that have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. This recall, according to the FDA, is a result of the recent expansion of the Setton Farms pistachio nut recall.
The FDA is also reporting:
1. Sahale Snacks, Inc. of Seattle, Washington is voluntarily recalling 2 oz Ksar Pistachios Nut Blend, 5 oz Ksar Pistachios Nut Blend and 4 oz Harry and David Marrakesh Pistachios Nut Blend, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
2. Mountain Man Nut and Fruit Co. of Salem, Oregon is recalling In Shell Roasted and Salted Pistachios, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
3. Renfroe Pecan Company is recalling all products containing Pistachios, because of the possibility of Salmonella contamination.
Salmonella, or salmonellosis, is the most common foodborne illness in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) receive reports of approximately 40,000 cases of salmonellosis in the United States each year – and the CDC estimates that hundreds of thousands more cases go unreported.
