A recent Highway Safety Program survey reported highway fatalities from car crashes in Louisiana were down 9% to their lowest level in twelve years. Nationally, auto accident fatalities are down 11%. That’s good news. However, the number of Louisiana drivers dropping their liability insurance was also increasingly dramatically. Nationally, there are 13.8% more uninsured drivers than a year ago. That’s bad news.
The economy has much to do with both situations. People are driving less due to higher fuel, repair and insurance costs. There may be less total autos on the road today, but unfortunately there are more uninsured autos headed in your direction. It is all the more important to be adequately insured, including uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. If you are unlucky enough to be involved in an auto accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist, you will be glad you had the foresight to be covered by all of the insurance you could afford.
