The FDA said these products contain sibutramine (a controlled substance), rimonabant (a drug not approved for marketing in the United States which has been linked to increased risk of depression and suicidal thoughts), phenytoin (an anti-seizure medication), and phenolphthalein (a solution used in chemical experiments and a suspected cancer causing agent). The pills contain doses of these ingredients that exceed recommended amounts and can cause serious reactions in some people. Some side effects of these pills can include high blood pressure, seizures, tachycardia, palpitations, heart attack or stroke. They can also interfere with prescription medication.
