According to a recent press release, Kroger is asking customers in the Shreveport and Alexandria areas, to check the pet food they recently purchased. Some dog and cat food sold at Kroger locations may be contaminated with Salmonella Schwarzengrund.
The tainted products listed were included in the Mars Petcare recall on Sept. 12, 2008. So far, 79 people have been infected with salmonella from handling the tainted pet food, and that number could go up.
Check your cabinets and clear your pantries of:
Pet Pride Indoor Cat Food, 3.5-lb and 18-lb. Best by JUL 29 09 or earlier dates
Pet Pride Weight Management Dog Food, 17.6-lb. Best by JUL 29 09 or earlier dates
For these recalled products, the number 17 is found under the “best- by” date followed by five other numbers that vary. The number 17 specifies that the products were made at facility where the Salmonella outbreak occurred.
If you have these products, return the packages to Kroger for a full refund or replacement. If you or a family member has experienced symptoms of Salmonella, you are urged to seek medical treatment and contact the CDC.
