An elderly woman was sleeping at home when a drunk driver careened off Chataignier Highway just South of Ville Platte and smashed into her house. The woman was killed, while the drunk driver was unharmed.
The vehicle left State Highway 29 and traveled about 500 feet crashing through several yards, fences, and two brick walls before coming to a stop in the middle of the woman’s home.
The driver was arrested and charged with careless operation, driving under suspension, DWI, and vehicular homicide. He remains at the Evangeline Parish Jail.
