Insurance Company Tatics: Deny, Delay, Confuse, Refuse

Many of us know the old quote, “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” It means that someone who helps you when you are in need is a true friend. Many insurance companies promise that they will be such “a friend in need” when we wreck our vehicle, become disabled, incur serious medical expenses, or experience some other unfortunate event. The consumer all-too-often finds, however, that the insurance company is not a “friend indeed.”

Insurance companies do not make money by paying claims. Instead of holding up its side of the bargain by paying the claim, (the consumer already has held up her end by paying premiums), some unscrupulous insurance companies employ tough tactics to prevent paying the claim. Usually, the unscrupulous company employs one or more of the rules for not paying claims — “Deny. Delay. Confuse. Refuse.” The American Association for Justice, an organization whose mission is to promote a fair and effective justice system, has recently published an article on this exact subject. You can access a copy of the report, “Tricks of the Trade: How Insurance Companies Deny, Delay, Confuse and Refuse,” by clicking here. Take a moment to read the report.
