Heavy rains yesterday lead to slippery driving conditions throughout most of Louisiana. Minor fenderbenders and cars in roadside ditches were a common sight in the wet weather.
A serious, deadly wreck was reported in Winn Parish, as State Police Troop E responded to a call in Winnfield around 4pm. The crash involved a Toyota pickup and a Chevrolet pickup. The driver of the Toyota, headed west bound on US Hwy 84, lost control of the vehicle, crossed the centerline and hit the Chevrolet, which was east bound.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Chevrolet was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. Neither of the motorists was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
“Weather plays a role in the safe operation of vehicles on our highways, but it is the responsibility of motorists to react to mother nature. It is always tragic when peoples’ lives are lost. Hopefully, this tragedy will serve as a reminder to us all that we are ultimately responsible for how we drive in adverse conditions and we need to respect bad driving conditions and always buckle up.” said Attorney Wes Gralapp.
