7 people were hurt in a chain reaction crash yesterday in Monroe. The wreck snarled traffic in the area for over two hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
The incident began as a slow-moving flatbed truck pulled on the Interstate. This forced a cab loaded with 3 adults and a child to slow down to avoid smashing the delivery truck. However, the 18-wheeler behind the cab was unable to stop and plowed into the rear of the cab, pushing it into the delivery truck before the vehicle crossed into the median and rolled.
A minute later, the driver of a GMC truck hauling a utility trailer crashed into stopped traffic, setting off another cluster of accidents.
Officials said that of the 7 injuries, none seemed serious. The driver of the GMC was ticketed by Louisiana State Police for careless operation.
